FAQs
Our Ethos
Antipodes is a clean beauty brand. What does that mean?
Being a clean beauty brand means we only use sustainable, plant-based, pollution-free New Zealand ingredients that are also certified organic and vegan. As a result, Antipodes green products are good for your skin and for the planet.
Antipodes products are completely free from: parabens; sulphates; phthalates; silicon derived ingredients; synthetic fillers; genetically modified (GM) ingredients; genetically engineered (GE) ingredients; animal ingredients (except ingredients from living bees, such as honey); artificial colors; artificial fragrances; chemical sunscreens; mineral oils; petrochemicals (like propylene glycol); BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole); ethanolamines and ethoxylated ingredients.
Are Antipodes products vegetarian?
All but one of Antipodes’ 47 products are certified vegetarian by the Vegetarian Society UK (VegSoc), the oldest and most respected vegetarian organization in the world. This respected body audits every Antipodes product annually to ensure it meets its strict criteria for approved vegetarian and vegan status. This independent verification means users can be confident that Antipodes products and their ingredients are not tested on animals, are free from animal ingredients and genetically modified organisms, that there’s no cross-contamination during the production process and that our products contain only clean, sustainably sourced and biodegradable ingredients (and are free from BHA/BHT, formaldehyde, parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, triclosan and petrolatum). Here’s more about our vegetarian and vegan approach.
Are Antipodes products vegan?
A total of 28 Antipodes products are certified vegan by VegSoc, including our range of hydrating and replenishing cleansers, serums and daily body nurture products. Here’s more about our vegetarian/vegan approach.
Are Antipodes products certified organic?
Of Antipodes’ 11 certified organic products, around 70-100% of the ingredients are certified by BioGro New Zealand, the Pacific’s largest and best-known certifier of organic produce and products. Because BioGro is internationally recognized and accredited, you can be sure you’re getting formulations free from toxic ingredients you can genuinely trust. Here’s more about our organic approach.
Are Antipodes products gluten free?
Although none of our facial skincare or lipstick products are formulated with ingredients containing gluten, the skincare range has not been independently certified gluten free so we cannot claim to be gluten free.
Are Antipodes products cruelty free or do you test on animals?
Antipodes products are cruelty-free and are NOT tested on animals. Our products are certified by VegSoc, to ensure they are not tested on animals.
Does Antipodes use honey or beeswax in its products? Where do you source your ingredients?
We use honey in seven of our products – Juliet Skin-Brightening Gel Cleanser, Aura Manuka Honey Mask, Manuka Honey Skin-Brightening Eye Cream, Manuka Honey Skin-Brightening Light Day Cream, Baptise H2O Ultra-Hydrating Water Gel, Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream and Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream. We source our pure, active, sustainable honey from a highly respected New Zealand company, Watson & Sons, which harvests premium honey from more than 40,000 hives around New Zealand. This honey is produced sustainably by bees who harvest the nectar of the wild manuka plant in remote parts of New Zealand, so there’s no impact to the environment. We use beeswax in our Moisture-Boost Healthy Lipsticks, a natural waxy substance that helps our long-lasting, healthy lipsticks retain moisture. Again, this is produced sustainably by bees who harvest the nectar of the wild manuka plant in remote parts of New Zealand, so there’s no impact to the environment.

Are Antipodes products safe for pregnant women?
Our products are considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. We use essential oils instead of artificial fragrances to create the exquisite Antipodes signature scents, however the concentration of these is extremely low so has no therapeutic effects on the body. We recommend patch testing for all products as skin can become more sensitized during pregnancy due to hormonal changes. If you are still unsure, we recommend you seek advice from your doctor.
Does Antipodes use palm oil?
We use sustainably-sourced palm oil and coconut oil derivatives as part of the emulsifiers in a small number of our skincare products. Our suppliers of these ingredients are all members of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
Does Antipodes use plastic wrapping?
Antipodes aims to ensure that our Green Beauty ethos is reflected in all elements of our business, including the packaging of our premium natural skincare and makeup. We opt for safe packaging that preserves our natural beauty products and their efficacy. We currently use limited plastic shrink wrap but are working on a biodegradable alternative that we hope to be able to roll out soon. Antipodes minimizes all plastics and uses the most environmentally friendly options available including recyclable jars, aluminium tubes and cardboard. We print with vegetable inks and are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved for sustainability. This extends to our secondary packaging. It also sees us maintaining a high-quality, low-consumption approach to our package sizes, achieving an environmentally friendly balance when addressing market demands for changes. In addition, Antipodes believes in working with local partners and suppliers and is proud to work towards full traceability in our packaging supply chain. As new sustainable packaging options become available, Antipodes continues to innovate.

Does Antipodes sell products in China?
Antipodes is proud to be a cruelty-free brand and is committed to not testing products on animals. We have chosen not to sell our products in China specifically because of the Chinese government's requirement for beauty products to be tested on animals.
We do, however, sell Antipodes' clean beauty formulations on e-commerce sites which ship to China from fulfilment centers outside of China, because then the products are exempt from mandatory animal testing.
