Frequently asked questions about collagen-boosting skincare
Does Antipodes collagen-boosting natural skincare contain collagen?
No. Collagen molecules are too large to penetrate the skin effectively. Rather than adding collagen, Antipodes collagen-boosting products use carefully selected botanical ingredients that encourage your skin's own fibroblast cells to produce Type I collagen – the most abundant collagen found in healthy skin. This helps improve the appearance of firmness, elasticity and fine lines.
Can natural skincare really boost collagen?
Yes. Certain botanical ingredients have been shown to stimulate collagen production within the skin. Every formula in the Antipodes Collagen-Boosting Collection has been independently tested and shown to increase Type I collagen production in human fibroblast skin cells.
How are Antipodes collagen-boosting skincare products scientifically proven?
Every product in this collection has been independently tested in vitro by Trinity Bioactives, a specialist New Zealand laboratory.
The formulations were applied to cultured human dermal fibroblast cells – the cells responsible for producing collagen in the skin. Testing demonstrated an increase in Type I collagen production of between 51% (for Divine Face Oil) and 92% (for Avocado Pear Night Cream).
What are fibroblasts, and what do they have to do with anti-ageing skincare?
Fibroblasts are the cells in your skin that produce Type I collagen, helping skin remain firm, smooth and resilient. As we age, fibroblast activity naturally slows, contributing to the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and loss of firmness.
That's why Antipodes collagen-boosting formulas are tested on human fibroblast skin cells – to measure how effectively they stimulate collagen production.
When should I start using collagen-boosting skincare?
Collagen production naturally begins to decline from your mid-20s, making this a good time to introduce collagen-boosting skincare. Supporting collagen early can help maintain firmer-looking skin over time, while mature skin can benefit from ingredients that target visible signs of collagen loss.
