Frequently asked questions about face masks

What does a face mask do for your skin?

A face mask gives skin a more intensive treatment than your everyday moisturiser or serum.

Different masks support different skin needs – hydration, radiance, nourishment, congestion or dullness. The best mask for you depends on how your skin feels that day, not just your skin type.

How do I choose the right Antipodes face mask?

Choose your mask based on how your skin feels and what it needs most.

  • Aura Mānuka Honey Mask is ideal for skin that feels stressed, dry or blemish-prone, helping deeply nourish while supporting calmer-looking skin.
  • Aura Gold Mānuka Honey Radiance Mask is our most active mask, designed to polish and brighten skin through bioactive exfoliation.
  • Halo Skin-Brightening Facial Mud Mask is best for dull, congested or oil-prone skin needing a clarifying and brightening reset.
  • Flora Probiotic Skin-Rescue Hyaluronic Mask is designed for sensitive, dehydrated or compromised skin needing hydration and skin barrier support.

Some people also alternate masks throughout the week depending on whether their skin feels dehydrated, congested or tired.

How long should I leave a face mask on?

Most face masks are designed to be left on for around 15 minutes, although this can vary depending on the formula and your skin type.

Hydrating and nourishing masks such as Flora Probiotic Skin-Rescue Hyaluronic Mask and Aura Mānuka Honey Mask can be left on longer if your skin enjoys them – many people use them overnight for extra comfort and hydration. Halo Skin-Brightening Mud Mask should not be left on longer than advised to avoid over-drying your skin.

The best approach is to try it and see how your skin feels. If your skin is sensitive or reactive, start with the recommended time before leaving any mask on for longer.

Can face masks help with blemishes or blackheads?

For skin that feels congested, dull or uneven, a mask like Halo Skin Brightening Mud Mask can help draw out excess oil. It also contains exfoliating jojoba beads to polish and refresh the complexion upon rinsing.

For blemish-prone skin that also feels dry or stressed, a soothing honey mask such as Aura Mānuka Honey Mask can help comfort and cleanse the skin without stripping it.

When should I use a face mask in my skincare routine?

Use a face mask after cleansing. Apply to clean skin, remove as directed, then follow with serum and moisturiser.

For those who would like to use it as sleep mask, make sure you build up to overnight use! Apply it as the final step in your evening routine in place of your usual night cream.

Please note that due to their bioactive ingredients Halo Mud Mask and Aura Gold Mānuka Honey Radiance Mask are not considered suitable for sleeping in.
