What is collagen, and how does it support ageing skin?
Think of collagen like the building blocks of skin – the glue holding everything together. Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and the major component of connective tissues that form a range of body parts, including tendons, ligaments, muscles, and your body’s largest organ, the skin.
There are a number of different types of collagen, but Type I is the most plentiful, making up over 90% of collagen in the human body.
Collagen has many important functions, including providing your skin with structure and giving it strength and elasticity. When we’re young, collagen is in plentiful supply, which is why our skin is beautifully bouncy. As we age, collagen levels deplete, leading to the gradual breakdown of the skin. AS a result, it becomes less firm and supple, and wrinkles begin to form. An anti ageing cream can help support healthy collagen levels and keep skin looking its healthy best.

Our in-vitro scientific investigations look at the effect of human skin cells when exposed to product end formulations. This method shows how skin cells stimulate or synthesise collagen over and above natural collagen levels. We test our anti ageing creams and other anti-ageing products on human skin fibroblast cells – the most common cell that creates Type I collagen, dispersed in connective tissue throughout the body.
